Progress With Chess - Mission Statement

Progress With Chess, Inc. is a non-profit 501(c)(3) Ohio corporation founded in 2001, dedicated to improving the lives of students through our chess programs.

Many studies have proven that students who play chess show significant improvement in their proficiency scores, academic achievement, emotional intelligence and self-esteem. Chess participation improves critical thinking skills such as concentration, memory, and pattern recognition and teaches the value of hard work, objectivity, and making good decisions. Chess promotes healthy social interaction between people of different ages and diverse cultural, racial and economic backgrounds.

We will endeavor to promote interest in and appreciation for the history, theory, and the practice of the art and sport of chess by sponsoring and promoting chess events, including chess tournaments, and promoting the development and enhancement of skill in chess among all people.

Our objectives are:

  1. We will continue working towards making our existing chess programs as rewarding and enriching as possible.
  2. We will endeavor to make school adminisrators and the general public more aware of the positive impact that chess involvement has on our youth.
  3. We will help as many schools and organizations as possible to initiate chess programs by providing skilled and experienced instructors and program directors and keeping costs affordable.
  4. We will organize and direct chess competitions and leagues for students and the general public, working with local, state and national chess organizations.
